Get to know me / Life in JBay

Not just a mom.

So for those of you who have been following me for a while will know that I’m not just a stay-at-home-mom (none of us are really), I am a work-at-home-mom too! I thought I’d introduce you to what I do for a living so you can get a peek into my world.

I do advertising and marketing for small local businesses, I focus on social media and online platforms. I work FOR my husband’s business, doing all their branding, social media, adverts, design and website maintenance. I am ALSO a qualified photographer, with around 20 years of experience, so I’m a very well rounded “one man show” for a business to have! My husband is a lucky man šŸ˜‰

The mom-life can be all consuming and all rewarding at any given moment, and the balance is elusive when you work from home. I try to be a “compression worker” when I get half an hour to spare I power through my work and get as much done in that focused half an hour as I can. I keep all the actual shooting/designing/web changes to times when I KNOW I will be left alone, or the kids are at school, as this demands continuous hours of focus and is not ideal work to do when the kids are around.

Being a mom these days is so multi-faceted, and we face challenges of organisation, planning and running a home as well as a side-hustle (which most of us have in one form or another) so we have to become masters of finding the perfect times to get things done. I have a friend who works at 3am, while her kids are sleeping, this works for her, it would not for me. Our lives look nothing like our mother’s lives did at the same phase of life.

So I keep my wheels turning with my online work and I have also done some freelance for a few other local makers and helped them with their social media platforms and product photography their beautiful hand-made products. I also run a group called Mommy Pantry, which passes forward donations to local charities and NPO’s through our network of moms and local folk who love to give, it’s my passion project.

So you can catch up with me on the social side of life, and you can see my work online at the following places:

What else do you as a stay-at-home mom? Do you have a side-hustle or full time job? I’d love to hear in the comments!
